YouTube Playlist Transcript: Workaround (One Video at a Time)
There is no official bulk playlist transcript export. Practical workarounds for courses, channels, and research when you need text from many videos.
Why playlists are hard
YouTube does not expose a single “download all transcripts” button for playlists or channels. Caption files are per video. Third-party tools that respect YouTube’s limits typically process one URL at a time — including Youtube Transcripto today.
Practical workaround for courses
- Open the playlist and list video URLs (spreadsheet or notes).
- Prioritize modules you need this week — do not batch 200 videos upfront.
- Paste each URL into the transcript tool; download TXT with the video ID in the filename.
- Store files in a folder per course or module.
- Use in-transcript search per video; merge notes in your own doc.
Naming convention that scales
CourseName_01-Introduction_VIDEO_ID.txt
CourseName_02-Setup_VIDEO_ID.txtConsistent names make later search in Finder, Drive, or Obsidian tolerable even without true bulk export.
When bulk really matters
Researchers and enterprises sometimes need API-scale extraction. That is a different product category (paid, compliance-reviewed). For most creators and students, sequential single-video export plus good file hygiene is enough.

Pick the first video in the playlist, extract its transcript, and confirm captions work on the series before committing to the whole list.
