Speech to Text for a YouTube Video
Speech to text, voice to text, and AI transcription are not the same job as reading YouTube captions. Here is which one you need.
Three phrases, two jobs
Speech to text listens to sound and writes words. A YouTube transcript reads captions someone, or YouTube, already wrote.
If the video is public and captioned, you do not need a second listen. Paste the link. If the video has no captions, a listener is the other tool, and it is not this one.
Use the captions when they exist
The transcript page returns the track with times. That is the fast path for lectures, podcasts posted on YouTube, and talks.
Auto-captions are an AI pass YouTube already ran. Treat them as a draft. Manual captions are closer to a script.
Do not force the wrong tool
A voice memo, a Zoom file on your disk, or a private link will not become text here. Take those to a speech-to-text app that accepts the audio. Bring a YouTube URL here.
